“María (En Cumbia)” connects Naples with San Francisco’s Mission District through a traditional Neapolitan chord progression, Mediterranean melody and a completely rebuilt live-band cumbia arrangement. Set around an imagined María of La Misión, the song explores lost love, longing and resistance to other people’s judgment—transforming María into the moon, the sky, the sea and the song itself. Produced, arranged, mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Pinto at Hyde Street Studios, the single captures Sonamó’s identity: Italian roots, Bay Area culture and global groove made to move.
